I have an old computer running Windows 98 SE and a SoundBlaster AWE64 sound card. Occasionally one of the Windows sounds will not release the sound card and I can't access it with any other program and the Windows sounds no longer work. I know I could replace the sound card with a multichannel one but I am curious as to what is taking place with this one.
Is there some way I can initialize the sound card driver without having to reboot the computer or force the sound card to be released? Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?
