You can install all the critical updates without any problem. They've all pretty much been tested and have proven to be non-toxic. With the recommended updates you need to read each one and see if they might apply to you. Most won't. I am not aware of any of them being buggy at this point though. Never install drivers from the Microsoft site.
Adaware is at http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ . That's the free version if that's the one you were using. Adobe ...
