Here I was afraid. cause when I clicked on it.. it said, it WAS NOT related to
messenger service... Then I got a Dell alert..(have that enabled.). and what
comes in.. THIS..
Too funny.. So I did it. and now I'm going to reboot. and see if it's going to
work..

How Do I Reduce Pop-up Windows or Advertisements in
Microsoft. Windows. XP?
Overview
To prevent further Windows Messenger pop-ups from appearing,
turn off the Windows Messenger Service.

NOTE: There are two types of pop-up windows: Windows
Messenger and web-based. Windows Messenger pop-ups appear in a grey background
with text and no pictures. Web-based pop-ups are miniature web pages. There
are programs available to prevent web-based pop-ups. These instructions only
help eliminate Windows Messenger pop-ups.

Turn Off the Windows Messenger Service
NOTE: You must be an administrator or a member of the
administrators group, to disable this service.
When enabled, the Windows Messenger Service allows pop-ups,
like the one shown below, to appear on your screen.
Notice the Messenger Service title listed at the top of the
window.

NOTE: Disabling the Windows Messenger Service will not
affect the functionality of AOL Instant MessengerT, Yahoo. Messenger, MSN.
Messenger, or other chat programs you may have on your system.
To turn off the Windows Messenger Service, perform the
following steps:
1.. Click the Start button, then click the Control Panel
icon.
The Control Panel window appears.
2.. In the left windowpane, click the Switch to Classic
View option.
3.. Double-click the Administrative Tools icon.
The Administrative Tools window appears.
4.. Double-click the Services icon.
The Services window appears.
5.. Scroll down the list in the right windowpane, and
double-click the Messenger listing.
The Messenger Properties window appears.
6.. Click the drop-down button next to the Startup type:
listing.
7.. Click to select the Manual listing.
8.. Locate the Service status: listing and click the Stop
button.

The Service Control window appears briefly.
The Windows Messenger Service has now been disabled.
9.. Click the Apply button.
10.. Click the OK button.
11.. Close the Services window.
12.. In the Administrative Tools window, click the Back
button.
The Control Panel window appears.
13.. In the left windowpane, click the Switch to Category
View option.
14.. Close the Control Panel window.
