Hi Jo, I have been using Bullet Proof FTP since about 1998 and find it the best of all I tried (about a half dozen). It was worth the purchase price (forgot how much now) and has been free for all upgrades. You can read about it here: http://www.bpftp.com/overview.php?header=overview
Another I have tried recently is FileZilla, an open source app which is free. I like it almost as much as BPFTP, but still find myself favoring BPFTP.
