Robert, just a suggestion as to what may have caused this (I have no great
personal knowledge of using Windows XP, so the ideas are second hand from
what I have read about others having problems).

One common cause of this problem I understand is failing to disconnect the
original drive after cloning, then restarting the computer with both drives
still connected. In this situation I believe the original drive will boot,
recognise the cloned drive, and allocate a drive letter to each partition on
it. In the process it writes data into track zero on the cloned drive which
prevents the cloned drive from subsequently booting when it is connected on
its own.

If in fact this is what you did (ie restart the computer with both drives
still connected) it is possibly the cause of your problem.

I understand the cure is to return the cloned drive to its original state
then repeat the cloning process. After doing the cloning shut down the
computer, disconnect the original drive, and connect the cloned drive in its
place. If the cloning has been done properly it should boot.

To return the drive to its original condition it is not sufficient to format
the drive, as the problem data is on track zero where the partition
information is stored. There are various utilities available for
overwriting this data. Perhaps you can download something suitable from the
web site of the manufacturer of your new drive. Typically these utilities
will write zeros in place of all the existing data.

If your problem is caused by something else, could I suggest that you search
the Help functions in your source of Norton Ghost. Apart from clicking
"Help" when you're using Ghost, there may be other documentation if your
software is on a CD. Try searching the CD for .pdf files or .txt files or
.html files containing information about use of the software.

Cheers, John Selby.
