Neither, it is dial-up with the hyphen. In typical English linguistic fashion, dial-up will become dialup in the future.


In English, a hyphen is added to two words to transform the verb form (dial) to an adjective (dial-up) or to make sense in a compound expression.

If you think about it, "dial up" would imply telephoning someone("I think I'll dial up my old friend"), while "dial-up" becomes the modifier to the action (dial-up connection).
