Yeah I knew a 64bit OS is not mandatory, but I've seen
benchmarks on the AMD 64bit and they are the same and even
slower than P4 CPU's on 32bit software in the majority of
tests, (and the new P4 Extreme pretty much blew everything
away). The only benefit of them (AMD 64bit) at this time is
gaming, where they excel. Wow that's cheap, the cheapest 64bit
AMD I've seen here is the "AMD 64 3200" (1.6ghz) which is over
$400, that's 4 times the $ of a P4 of the same speed.

Yes I wanted a mobo with an additional IDE port for a separate
non-slaved storage drive and preferred Si3112a, but
unfortunately the P4C800-E Deluxe uses Promise. I considered
the Abit IC7-G which uses the SI controller, (and the MSI Neo2
FIS2R which uses the Promise) but decided on the P4C800-E
Deluxe since it was faster, higher rated, and the Abit had
"memory issues" and the MSI had "BIOS issues"! Heck, they all
have "issues". Hopefully Asus will release a new BIOS that
will address my "issue". They have 1012 and 1013 out, HAD them
out I should say and they were beta, but pulled v12 due to it
frying boards, then pulled v13 after that. Maybe when they
release these one will address the Promise issue. (BTW,
someone d'loaded 1013 to read the release notes and it stated
"support for P4 Extreme". I bet they removed it so they could
force potential P4 Extreme buyers to have to buy another mobo!)

Do you need the SATA controller? If you do need it have you
considered
another vendor? Say the Silicon Image SATA controller or one
from
Highpoint, maybe these offerings would work soundly. I had
issues with some
Promise controllers in the past and now try to stay away from
them
altogether. Maybe their server cards are better, I know not.

BTW, you don't need a 64 bit OS to run on the Athlon64 as it is
backwards
compatible with all 32 bit systems. And (at least in Canada) a
low end
Athlon64 cpu is not much more than your processor and the mobo
for it isn't
much either. Total cost for both is only a $100 more than what
your
combination would cost. These are retail too, and not an arm
and a leg
really :)
