Hi All.

First.. and foremost.. A Very Happy & Healthy Holiday and New Year.. to all
here at PC Works..

Well, it's been almost 2 months.. and you haven't heard me "complain" about
Dell... So,, here goes.. LOL.

First time, I've had to call them.. since I got my new computer (again).
second one they shipped me.. If you all remember all the problems I"ve had
with Dell/and their computer.. But this one.. Was.. working, fine..

Anyway, this morning.. Computer boots up as normal.. I have Earthlink. as my
ISP.(dial up) and when I go to click on the icon.. to get to Earthlink..
Nothing happens.. I do it several times. and nothing.

I "TRY" to reboot the computer.. .BUT, the computer will NOT shut off... So I
try control/alt/delete.. Nothing. I try escape. nothing.. Finally I try to
turn it off manually. and it goes off.. Now, I try again.. and my desktop
comes up again.. but can't connect to Earthlink... Nothing happens. when I
click on it.. I now figure. .Okay, I"ll do a system restore. and get it back
to yesterday.. Well, I "Try" to click on system restore.. NOTHING..

(Btw.. Running XP Professional. on a 3 month old computer.(Dell). Well,
actually, the new one is only 2 months old.. Since I had the first one for a
month.. and then it was shipped back..

So, now I'm concerned and at 6 am. I"m on hold with Tech Support.. (for 15
minutes - wait time).. Meanwhile. I WAS able to do a system restore..
Finally... I dont' know why?.. or how.. But after rebooting, and turning off
the computer. manually about 6 times.. I was finally able to do the system
restore. to yesterdays date..

Finally tech gets on the phone. and even though I'm "up and operational".. he
says. "It's static". and what I had to do.. was to unplug the power cord..
Then hold down the power button for 10 seconds.. then reconnect the power cord
to the computer.. and that will 'reset itself".. He said, this happens with
any electronic devices.. especially computers..

So, my question is this.. Has this every happened to anyone. and does that
make any sense?? That static can build up?? and you have to do this..

I do know. that when my cable has been out.. OR.. my VCR wont' work. for some
reason.. I have called and I have been told to unplug it.. then plug it back
in and it 'does' reset - itself.. So it does ring true.. But I've never heard
of this with a computer..

Any thoughts??

Thanks all,, and a very happy & healthy --- to everyone
