Peter, I haven't noticed any major difference between Open Office & Star Office. One difference is more Fonts & Templates in Star Office, also a closed-source database component. They both contain (Writer), a word processor, (Calc) a spreadsheet, (Impress) a presentation composer, (Draw) a drawing tool, (Math) a formula editor and a set of database tools. Calc & Impress include filters to import and export MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Writer also supports Rich Text (RTF), XML, and HTML. Draw supports AutoCAD, Windows Metafile (WMF), (EPS), (SVG) and a wide variety of bitmap formats.
