Gail, I agree with Ben and am quite sure that opening/closing .jpg files or copying them from place to place doesn't cause any loss of detail etc. Even changing the name (as long as you retain the .jpg suffix) cannot affect the image file. Losses will occur if you resize or make any other change to a jpg image and save it again in that format. Some quite authoritative books state that the biggest losses occur in the first two or three changes and re-saves.
However, if that is your problem then you can get around that by making the change(s) to your jpg file in PaintShopPro and then instead of Saving it, select Edit/Save As and save it in .TIF format, which is lossless. You then still have the original .jpg image, unchanged, plus the new modified image in a .TIF file which you can now convert to .jpg without losing any quality. I do this all the time with .jpgs from my digital camera and it seems to work very well. Irfan view will also change the formats but (I think) if you do it in PaintShopPro, you may be able choose the size of your new jpg file, e.g. large, medium or small, which you may then email. I suggest you then delete the .TIF file as it will be quite large, but of no further use to you. I am not very well up on Irfan or PSP, but I hope this helps you.
