They are basically just using a cache. They grab popular sites and place them on their servers and instead of your browser going to the site it goes to that server.

browsing.  How else would they have a set number of 40 pages loading one
after the other without any user actions taking place?

If they want to show how fast things download, why don't they post
upload/download speeds like the cable/DSL companies?
