Some time ago, after an "upgrade" of this or that, my Dell PC, which contains my DVD burner, stopped being able to capture from my Canon DV Video camera through the firewire port. Not sure why (it just locks up the computer requiring a plug pull - what I call a "cruel boot"). However I am still able to capture from the camera using my laptop (which also has a firewire port). The only pain is that the AVI files I end up with are huge and I still need to get them back to the Dell if I want to make a DVD.
I can move the files via my home network, or move them onto one of my external hard drives, but the network transfer is slow and the external drive method requires three steps (notebook to external to Dell). Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to do a direct transfer using the two firewire ports (notebook to PC)? Guess you would need special software???? You figure, when you are capturing from the camera to the computer, that is really all you are doing.... I do have a USB to USB transfer cable, but, a: It is sitting in a drawer at work and b: The Notebook only has USB 1.1 which would slow thing considerably.. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
