Hello again, Original question (Windows 98) ... After the last system restore I easily removed the volume control from the systray. Then something happened, and it came back again. And in Control Panel > Multimedia, the box to remove it was grayed out with a very dim looking check in it (but the box was non operational)
Solution ... If Volume Control should ever get back onto the systray and appear unable to be removed, go to Multimedia, and change the Playback > "Preferred device" choice. With all the bright people here (and I mean we have the brightest), how come nobody thought of that? ... Harold --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
