Jeff,
I took the liberty of asking on another list, and here are two replies from
members there:

I doubt the part numbers are really changing to "formulas"...what I think is
happening is they are too long and are being changed to the "scientific"
format, or else they are being seen in the text format.  He should highlight
them all and go to the Format menu and choose Cells, then make them either
General or Number.

If this still doesn't fix it, tell him to go to my Excel formatting video
tutorial and that will SHOW him exactly how to make sure they are seen as
numbers.  That is here:

and the 2nd reply:

I am confused about the information changing to a
formula, though.  I have never had that happen with exporting to cvs, but
maybe it is something that QuickBooks will cause. If he is using Excel to
open the files then maybe  he could  change the column format to text to
prevent the formulas, but I am not an Excel expert, even though I love the
program.
