Hi, Harold, Sometimes the sound comes through the modem speaker, sometimes it comes through the built-in computer speaker, and sometimes it comes through the speaker that you plug in through your audio card. Let's take the third option for starters. Have you tried to lower the volume in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices?
