Thank you, David, or anyone else interested in where my sounds are coming from :-)
I went to Control Panel > Sounds, and found no volume adjusting option there nor do I find any reference to Audio Devices. What I do find is one tab labeled "Sounds" with three sections: Events (showing all the speakers), Sound (grayed out), and Schemes (with two options, Windows Default and No Sounds). I have Windows 98 if that's of any help. Interesting that sometimes I get suggestions making me think I'm living in a different world. ... Harold > Sometimes the sound comes through the modem speaker, sometimes it comes through the built-in computer speaker, and sometimes it comes through the speaker that you plug in through your audio card. Let's take the third option for starters. Have you tried to lower the volume in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices? ... David Grossman > > I like to keep the modem noise during dialup down. The way I've always done that was Control Panel > Modems > Properties > Speaker volume "Off" ... For some reason, I now hear the modem dialup while the Speaker volume is still configured as "Off" ... any ideas there? ...
