Jeff:
Thanks for your observations on the SpamRival subject.

I am not as experienced on this computer stuff as the experts on the pcworks
list but always enjoy reading the questions, answers and opinions, even though
I seldom post to the list.

This is what I understand about how it works:

The SR service picks up the address from the PCworks list post to send the
challenge message to the e mail address of the originator of the post to
respond to so Iguess that the address is in the pcworks post, maybe Jeff can
help me understand how the address is obtained.

I get spam that I am pretty sure that my address is being picked up from lists
including the pcworks one.

If I am expecting a response from a specific address I usually add them to my
approved list to same them the trouble of answering the challenge, however I
do not have access to the addresses or can predict who will post to the
pcworks list.

No one has to respond to the SR challenge and their message will simply be
discarded after 6 days and I will never have to see the message. If one does
respond then they will never be challenged at that address again and the list
posts will be sent to my mailbox.

How do you know anyone who has access to your address is not selling or
spamming it?? Pcworks, your ISP and whoever else you exchange e mail with??

Have a worry free day.

Ralph

  Ralph,
Perhaps you do like it very much. On the other hand, someone you are
expecting a response from may not be
so quick to want to just give their email address out to another service
that may, or may not sell the
  email address.
Also, I get emails from my bank, credit card companies, companies I do
business with, etc...some of these
are sent automatically, so if they don't get to me, I will never know it.

  Marlene:
I am Ralph M. and I do subscribe to SpamRival, I have not posted any
messages
to the list in over a month, and for sure and you did not contact me as
described in your post of June 18. In other replies to the post, Clint
describes sending me E-Mail on this subject which I did not Rec. The way SR
works is to challenge the first message and then accept any additional
messages from senders that answer the challenge, I have been using this
service since last Oct. and like it very much.

Who did you contact about this?? Not Me.

    Hi Gang,

Due to several complaints arising from the email that Spam Rival sends
our
listmembers each time someone posts, I contacted Ralph with the
complaints.
Much to my surprise, he knows absolutely nothing about, and has NEVER
heard
    of Spam Rival.

I advised him to contact them immediately to de-activate his account, and
  to
find out WHO opened this account, and WHY. I cannot understand it either,
especially since it is a "for a fee" program, and advised him to check
his
banking and credit statements for withdrawals. He assured me that he had
  not
    been debited for their services.

The only other direction I think this might take, is perhaps Earthlink
  makes
use of their services?? Anyone have any input here?

    Thanks,
