In addition to what Babs has stated.......I haven't seen this
problem on XP yet, but I HAVE on 98. It's usually traced to a
hanging autoexec.bat, but I don't think XP has autoexec.bat or
at least not in the previous conventional manner. I've never
been able to find it, yet I see references to it on XP! If you
can locate it, see if there are entries in it that are checked
relating to DOS drivers for the sound card, this is what
usually causes it. Then uncheck them. You probably won't have
the sound card available in DOS though. Sometimes in the sound
card's properties there are check boxes to enable DOS support,
so if you can find one of those when you can get it to boot,
uncheck it/them.

Have you waited a long time to see if it will eventually boot?
With a DOS hook, they will usually boot but it takes a long
time. Disable the Windows splash screen so you can see the
FULL POST screen and what is being loaded before or during
the Windows load. That may point to the problem. Also make
sure you have the latest XP drivers; check for any yellow marks
in the Device Manager (and be sure you click "show hidden
devices" when checking); go to "System Information", expand
"Hardware Resources", then check out "conflicts/sharing",
"forced hardware" and check "IRQ's" to see if it's resources
are being shared with any other IRQ. Then scroll down to
"problem devices" and see if anything is there.

You may also want to check your Boot.ini file for any sound
card entries. Go to the Device Manager area like you're going
to it, but click the "advanced" tab, then click the "settings"
button for "Startup & Recovery", then click the "edit" button
and that's the Boot.ini file. But DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING in
that file until you back it up, make a copy of it. I'd also
make a backup of your entire registry before doing anything,
and if you use XP Pro set a restore point as well.

It's been several years since I've used a BX mobo, and I can't
recall if they need drivers. Usually Intel chipsets of that
era did not, but sometimes they did. So, be sure you have
installed any inf chipset utility drivers, Bus Mastering
drivers, and Miniport or IRQ routing drivers. (Miniport might
have only been for non-Intel chipset mobo's of that era, can't
remember now).

Are there any IRQ conflicts? Perhaps sometimes something is
loading before the sound card and when it does the sound card
won't work and othertimes the sound card loads first and works
correctly?

The system boots once in ten times with the card.. I have tried
changing the pci slots but still the problem persists. The card
is working fine in different computer.
