Back in the late `70's, Terry Hounsome started to put together a massive work in his "Rock Record" book series. Since then he's had many, many record collectors add as much info to his books as possible. It's now such a huge book he only publishes it on cd-rom. I think his first edition had about 10,000 or so entries, the most recent edition was (I think) up to about 7,000,000!! So, you see, if he didn't take the record collectors' collective knowledge into account for his book it'd still be printed on paper and wouldn't be anywhere near as big as it is now.
