I THINK I narrowed my problem down to GoBack. GoBack also really slows down
a PC. I knew it was too good to be true and I was about to ask the list if
anyone knew of anything that worked just like GoBack (GB), yet did not have
the horrible side-effects of GB.

I ran benchmarks recently and they were HORRIBLE compared to pre GB
benchmarks. This is even with GB not running at all in the background! I
disabled it from the interface, and tests were better but still not up to the
original results. So, I uninstalled it, and the benchmarks are all back to
the previous levels! Also, after uninstalling it I don't have this delayed
typing anymore, so evidently it was GB that was also causing that!

I believe there is 3 places where you change the cursor blink rate/speed.
One as you probably know is in the Control Panel, but with some there is an
area for mouse, AND one for Keyboard so both must be checked out. It depends
on the mouse type and software if you have one under the "Mouse" icon. The
other area is under "Accessibility Options" in the control panel (there's
also a different area under the "Accessibility Wizard" for blink rate, may or
may not the be same thing), and the final area is in the BIOS. Some mobo's
BIOS' have a character repeat/blink area.

Clint,

Well, this is a switch; me telling YOU what might be wrong. Ya know,
Clint, I'm not a computer whiz like most of you here seem to be, and I've
been
having this problem too for a good while, but, nearest I can figure, when
this happens, the puter is probably busy doing something. It happens to me a
lot
more on line than off and when it does, I can almost always count on it being
because someone in my buddy list is signing on or off or someone is about to
start an IM with me.
The one that's bugging me is: why is it that when I had my original
hard drive the cursor moved a lot faster than it has since I got the
replacement
drive? I'm DEAD sure I made NO changes to the cursor speed in either case.
In fact, I seriously doubt that I even knew that the cursor speed COULD be
changed before I got the replacement drive. That's because when I first
mentioned it to a puter techie, he suggested that I go into the area where I
can
change the speed, and then change it. I did, and so did he, and nothing
changed.
If I remember correctly (it's been a few years since I've been there), the
speed is set to full. Every great once in a while I'll notice that the
cursor
shifts into high speed all by itself for a few minutes and then goes back to
medium speed again, where it seems to be now. On the old HD, it only took
about
3 seconds (if that) for the cursor to go from one end of a line to the other
using only the cursor direction buttons. Now (and I just now timed it) it
takes 6 seconds to do that.
