Copying a video game or a dvd are two different problems filled with their own idiosyncrasies.

Most (if not all) video games use some sort of protection above simple disc checks, so first you should identify what protection exists, a good article on this is here http://64.191.87.123/games/gcw_cd-backup.shtml. the protections used are detailed here http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_protections.shtml

I use Clone DVD but have been told that Alcohol 120% is very good, http://shop.alcohol-soft.com/en/alcohol_info.php. Roxio and Nero (and many others just can't match these apps)

Most use, and I use what I mentioned (AIW = All In Wonder and that's ATI).
If you can find one with AIW features, then that would be good since ATI's
drivers and software are HORRIBLE. They are full of bugs and errors of which
ATI never fixes. They are known on the net for their driver and software
problems. If you luck out and get an install that yields no crashes or odd
problems, they're great! In my most recent install, all recorded video from
TV is BLACK! I play it back, and it's too dark to be seen, and still image
captures from TV are the same way. That never happened before and all is the
same as before! They're buggy.

I never tried to copy anything but a CD, so I can't say for sure. But, if a
video game is like a pressed pre-fab CD, drag 'n drop won't work. Every time
I've tried to copy everything over from a CD with that method, the CD didn't
"work". All of the **VISIBLE** data was on the CD I made, but there's much
more on a CD than what you see like the TOC and some proprietary CD image
files (same with a DVD). This is what makes the CD bootable and load the
'ware on it automatically, among other things. One might get lucky and be
able to click any "setup.exe" (or main install executable) on the copy and
get it run and load, but it doesn't happen very often. This is why
Adaptec/Roxio ECDC or Nero's version is needed for CD copying since they are
more of a mirror copy, and copy EVERYTHING on a CD. Evidently the same can
be said for a DVD since what you describe with it is what I described above.

I don't know if Roxio ECDC 6 CD/DVD will copy DVD's or not. Theoretically it
may, but you may need something like DVD Shrink or DVDecrypter to copy a DVD.

Clint,

On this, what's a good card to be able to capture video to the puter.
What I want to do is copy some video to the puter so I can edit it and burn
it to DVD.
Also (while I'm thinking of it) a woman at work today asked me how to
copy a video game from one disc to another. I told her to do it segmentally
by just using copy/paste on one icon at a time. However, I'm not sure this
will work properly since I recently did the same thing with a dvd, just as an
experiment to see if it would work, and I WAS able to copy the full movie
onto
another dvd, but I didn't get menus and chapters and all that stuff. I can
easily play the copy, but there are no divisions between scenes, or at least
not
quite as many as the original has. When I first pop the copy into the dvd
drive it shows me the original scene selector, but only for about 1/4 of a
second
and then it just goes straight into the movie.
