Hello again (sorry for this late posting) --- I've been holding this in my
Sent folder and just realized why it never got posted. In this email I
spelled out words like h*ack, h*cker, and h*cking. It was meant to go out
months ago.

> Harold, your second suggestion (going to C\Windows\Start Menu) worked like
a charm. It never occurred to me to go in there to go to the Start menu
folder and organize things there. It's just as easy as my old method. Your
first suggestion (R-click your Start button > Explore, and work from there)
doesn't work because when I R-click on the Start button, Open and Explore
are both grayed-out.

Response ... John, I once had that situation too but don't recall how I
solved it. If I can't get to the Explore window, that's the end of it for
me. I do a "Quick Restore" or "System Recovery" . when you are retired, a
day spent restoring and streamlining the system can be another source of
joy. I'm sure you know; but for those who don't, that that folder (Start
Menu) IS the part of the Start menu on the taskbar that we have control
over. The lower part of the Start menu is pretty much controlled by h*cking
the Registry. In Windows 98, which I am still using, other features in the
Windows directory are

C:\Windows\Desktop . that's where the desktop comes from. You can also get
there with a dot in Start > Run.
C:\Windows\Favorites (when using IE)
C:\Windows\Fonts . also accessed in the Control Panel.
C:\Windows\History (when using IE)
C:\Windows\Recent C:\Windows\SendTo . you remove shortcuts, add shortcuts,
and you have your tailor-made SendTo menu.

Related to that HP/Compaq Pavilion discussion we recently had, in a way, I'm
stuck in Win 98 because I feel very comfortable there, old habits etc. Hugh
asks if I still have my wife. Yes I do, Hugh; will be 46 years on Christmas
day (got married when I was 28, she 20). I don't make changes easily. If you
are hinting that my personal self might also need some upgrading (or
remodeling), there's no denying it .but we'll just concern ourselves with
computers on this list ;-) . Harold
