Hello again, My Standby button on the keyboard works very well, in spite of the many warnings from the group about some dangers in using it. So as long as there is no problem, when I'm not by the computer, the computer is on Standby (no fan going, system is resting, and I presume fewer resources are being used).
However I do notice that with AVG and Zone Alarm in the System Tray, clicking Standby shuts the system down, but the computer will not re-activate itself when moving the mouse or pressing a keyboard key. Instead, the computer will freeze necessitating a cold boot up. To avoid this aberration, I shut down both programs and then Standby works perfectly. Question 1: Is there a way to make one shortcut (something like a bat file?) that will close both programs, and maybe a way of making one shortcut that will open both programs. Lazy me, it'll mean a few fewer clicks. Question 2: Maybe there's an English teacher in the group. Is it a few fewer clicks or a few less clicks? Maybe just "fewer clicks" --- Harold I know the first child born here in NYC gets some special recognition. How about the first person who sends a posting into PCWorks.
