Same thing. :-) An idea. But also in their case, free
website submissions and an SE that really worked with a
multitude of advanced search options, and a name people like to
use. I've been telling these money hungry jerks at the other
SE's (like Excite, Alta Vista, Webcrawler, etc.) when they
started to charge for inclusions, that would be the beginning
of the end for them. That's a total no-brainer to realize
that, but noooooooooooooo. Who the heck is dumb enough to use
an SE that will only return a few limited results from those
that were stupid enough to PAY for inclusion??????? If you are
trying to buy a somewhat hard to find antique and go to an SE
that charges for inclusion to try and find it, it may show up
at some high-end NYC or L.A. antique dealer for 10 grand. THEY
had the money to pay the SE for inclusion. However, you go to
a FREE SE and look for the same item and you find the exact
same item at locally owned small dealer for only $1000. Why?
I think everyone knows but I'll say it anyway; small businesses
don't have the money to pay every charging SE for inclusion!
So, they submit to all the free ones--EVERYONE with a website
submits to the free ones and that's why the free ones will find
a lot more results and options for the one doing the search.

Take Yahoo for example: these morons started to charge $200 for
EACH URL submitted, and it hurt them so bad they had to start
using Google's results feed!! They made millions off of idiots
that gave them 200 bucks a pop, only to have those that paid
$200 not showing any higher in the results than those that
never paid!! This has hurt them in the long run and they are
now making their free site submission more accessible, and Alta
Vista and a couple of others are ALSO now using Yahoo's free
site submission since they are now using Yahoo's results!

If you are smart, (and Google's two founders were), free =
money. Google has never charged and say they never will. One
does have the option of paying them for inclusion in their
"Sponsored links" which appear at the top and side of the
results pages. This is the main way how they make their bucks.
Now I'm happy some pay for this since this is probably one of
the things that keeps Google free, but WHY they do it, I don't
know since I for one rarely ever look at any sponsored links
since they are usually so generic they don't apply. There was
a segment on Google on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back, and its
stats & growth is mind boggling. As a result of Google's IPO a
few months back, their employees are all millionaires now since
they all are part owners. Plus, they get free "12-course
gourmet meals" daily at the on "Google campus" restaurants,
free housing on the campus, free heath clubs, heath care, much
more. It's amazing. There's something like a 5 year waiting
list for those submitting risumi's to them.

Hello again,

I once asked the group what Bill Gates did that made Microsoft
the giant it
is, that so many other very capable computer (and business)
people didn't
do. Your answer was basically, "He had an idea; it all starts
with an
idea." --- I'd like to ask the same question regarding Google.
I remember
when Yahoo was the rage among search engines. What is it that
Google did
that made it become a verb in our languages? --- Harold
