Just because you use a firewall or router, that doesn't mean it's masked. It depends on the firewall.
If your IP is dynamic, you can't change it to static, only your ISP can do that (if they offer it) and for a greater charge of course. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ) http://ComputersCustomBuilt.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Pavey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I'm on cable, not dial up. My IP probably is masked by either my firewall &/or my router. If the IP addresses are dynamic, how do you change them to static? Thanks, Cindy Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2005 22:52:03 -0600 From: "Support-OrpheusComputing.com" If you're on a dialup, it's dynamic. If you're on DSL or cable, it could be both. Ask your ISP, or monitor your IP address for about a week at someplace like www.ipchicken.com . Make sure your IP isn't being masked by any firewall or proxy programs before checking. - -Clint - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Pavey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have no clue as to whether the IP addresses are static or dynamic, how to find out or how to make them static. I THINK the XP is static, don't know about the 98. How to I find out and how do I fix it? You don't say whether the IP addresses for your computers are static or dynamic. In my experience , especially if you're mixing XP and 98 it's best to give each computer a static address, (192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2) with the sub mask as 255.255.255.0. This should enable you to share properly. Obviously, as others have pointed out, you must be sharing the files correctly. best of luck ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
