Hey Tom. Not sure what you mean by "SMTP program" (or what you
need to do). Sorry if I'm telling you something you already
know, but SMTP is the OUTgoing email protocol by your ISP
(Earthlink). It's usually something like mail.ISPname.net (or
.com if that applies). I believe you have a website or two, if
your hosts have an SMTP server on your domains (such as mine
do), you can then use your own domain's SMTP server. However,
and unfortunately, many ISP's now are FORCING us to use their
buggy screwed-up SMTP outgoing server and there's nothing you
can do about that.

So first you have to find out if Earthlink is blocking I think
it is port 25 (the mail server) for other domains other than
their own. If they are not, and your websites have their own
SMTP server, then its' best to use your websites' outgoing
server which should work with any email program.

There are some exceptions. In the case of web-based email like
Gmail for example, they now have settings where you can send
and receive Gmail FROM OE or most other email programs, and in
those cases you CAN (and have to) use Gmail's incoming POP3 and
outgoing SMTP server. This works even if your ISP is forcing
you to use their own SMTP server.

If you need an "SMTP program" for something else, you may want
to look into this.
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm It
has an SMTP server built in and is free.

It could be that you just don't have all the settings set
correctly in Eudora. I've never used it, but I'm sure someone
on the list can help you go through the settings to make sure
they are correct for Earthlink (as opposed to asking Earthlink
and probably getting the run-around).

Does anyone have a recommendation for an SMTP program? I
found quite a few of them when searching on Google.

I prefer to use Eudora 3.06 but apparently it does not
support the type of SMTP authentication now used by
EarthLink. I have DSL service with EarthLink and, so far,
happy with it except for the SMTP problem.

Thank you,
