Hello again (Windows 98), A new problem. Whenever the computer freezes (like when resources are too low), I find that after bootup I lose the effectiveness of the "shortcut keys" --- although the designated letter still shows up on the shortcut in the Start menu.
To get them working again, I have to remove the letter from the shortcut's property window (Shortcut key line), and then type it back in, click Apply or OK, and then it works again. I removed the keyboard driver (from the Device Manager window) which then reinstalled itself upon bootup, and that did no good.
