Which is better, ZoneAlarm or Windows Firewall (that comes with Win XP)? ---Harold

I would STRONGLY suggest that you disable the Windows firewall and reactivate the Zone Alarm. Windows firewall is inbound only so that any spyware on your machine will be able to report out. I have two machines, one with xp pro and the other with xp home and used the free version of ZA on both. I also have the windows firewall turned off so that I have control in both directions. Windows will recognize that you have ZA and it should have turned itself off in the first place, but it will not give you the alerts that you have no protection unless you also shut off the ZA. --- Keith Thompson

FWIW, I've always used TWO Firewalls (FW) on my setups with no issues (with Sygate Pro). As another pointed out, the XP FW is not all that great. In fact, it purposely LETS M$ do "probing" on your PC! Also, by default it's setup VERY POORLY to allow all sorts of things. If you can't get a 3rd-Party and the XP FW to co-exist peacefully, disable the XP FW. Even with ZA I've been able to get them both to work together Ok, so I guess it's just a matter of "settings". Dialup or DSL, router or no router could have something to do with it. (In my case this is on DSL and a router).--- Clint

Thank you mucho; Windows is disabled and I'm now again using ZoneAlarm. --- Harold
