Hello again,

Original problem --- Compaq Presario, Windows XP, and Compaq PS2 Keyboard; the
problem is that although the sound volume control on the keyboard does work,
those small vertical lines that appear on the bottom of the screen which show
the volume change stopped showing up; no lines. What's missing, any
suggestions? --- Harold

Ben Moore says --- "That's a feature of your keyboard software/drivers. First
I would look in the control panel and go to keyboard and there should be some
settings there. See if there is one to display the volume control on the
screen. If there is check it, uncheck it ... Play with it. You know what to do
Harold. If it's not in Control Panel, it should be somewhere. Look around. If
that doesn't have any success, you may need to reinstall the keyboard
software. You can go to the Compaq site and look under your model number and
get it, I think". --- Ben Moore

Problem solved --- Sorry for the delay but eureka, I found it. Since Sept. 21,
I wasn't just looking for the solution here; having the lines or not having
the lines was "no big deal.". Working with the "keyboard software/drivers"
didn't fix it, but it just occurred to me that maybe some of the features I
have unchecked in Misconfig > Startup might need some re-checking. That did it
and now the keyboard lines have re-appeared.

The lines came back by playing with the features appearing in
Misconfig/Startup. They do seem much more complicated than what was in Windows
98 (I think it's time I got Win 98 out of my mind), and I'm not sure yet
exactly which Startup feature(s) is actually controlling the keyboard volume
control; trial and error un-checking will eventually let me know.

New problem --- This is not directly a result of the above but I lost my
shortcut to the Volume Control in the Start menu (which I have in "classic
view). I can put the shortcut into the System Tray from the Control Panel >
Sounds and Audio Devices, but I can't copy that shortcut to any other part of
the computer. Question: How do I make a shortcut to the Volume Control?
