Lisa, do you have access to another DVD drive so that you
can check the DVD disk and see if it is readable. . .
Recently I had two regular CDR drives that went bad and
couldn't read the CD. I placed the CD in another PC and the
CD was readable and changing out the CDR drive did the trick.
Those CD drives were probably a couple years of age.

I'm a bit confused on what you mean by "master" since I thought
you have only one optical drive and it's a combo. The HD has
to be the master. If the DVD and CD is a combo as I think
understand, try booting off of any bootable CD and see what
happens. If it works, then you know it's not OS or software
related and something went wrong with the DVD portion of the
drive.

Also Lisa, if you simply could not boot from the restore disk (I believe
Hugh already covered how to do that), and in the BIOS it's not going to
say "DVD", it will say "CDROM", so treat them as the same. Also if you
have two optical drives, you're going to have to put the disk in the
master optical drive (which is easier than changing the optical boot
order in the BIOS), since it's the drive to which the PC will boot if
set to "CDROM". With some BIOS's, it will automatically find any boot
media in *either* optical drive, on others it will not and must be in
the master optical drive, (and still on others you can change which
optical drive is the main or master one, but you don't need to do that,
that could mess up your drive letter assignment). -Clint =============
