Hello again,

Original problem (seems it also happened to me): "Using a 'Compaq PS2 Keyboard
(2K - 3)' and WinXP, and although the volume control continued to work, I lost
the volume bars that move across the screen just above the taskbar when
increasing or decreasing the volume (using the volume buttons on said
keyboard)"

Solution: I stand corrected, we'll call them Volume "lines" above the taskbar.
And as I said, trial and error will solve the problem; and it did. In my
effort to streamline the operation of the computer, having heard that the
fewer programs you have opening in the Startup as shown in "misconfig" >
Startup, I had unchecked "HPBootOp" (stands for HPBoot Optimizer)

It is found in C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer. And now
having re-checked HPBootOp, the volume lines are again appearing. Currently
now, all I have checked in that Startup is Rundll32, zlclient, avgcc, avgemc,
HPBootOp, and two more that keep re-checking themselves: Realsched and ctfmon.
Anything else I need, I use shortcut keys ... and the Start menu if
necessary.

I know this is a small matter in the scheme of things; in the general
condition of world politics and our current immigration predicament ... it's
so gratifying to find solutions to little computer glitches. --- Harold
