Ben,

I'm so sorry. The issue is that the installation of Word has apparently changed all of my .txt files to .doc files that open with Word. However, if I change the association of .doc files to WordPad, THIS is when my computer crashes. It simply freezes--no BSOD. Cursor freezes, and I have to turn off the computer with the button on the tower. CTRL/Alt/Del won't even work.

I don't know why your computer crashes when you try to associate txt files
with Wordpad. That's strange. I can't remember the last time I had a
computer actually crash.

You could always do a sendto link to Wordpad. That might be a little faster
than open with. All you have to do is create a shortcut to Wordpad and then
put it in your Documents and Setting/(your user name)/Sendto folder. It
will then appear in your right click sendto menu.
