You could try to do a repair. If you boot from your WinXP cd at the first option window select install not repair. At the second option after it identifies existing WinXP installations on your disk, you can choose repair. That will repair your WinXp install without losing your data. That being said all your data should be backed up somewhere off of the WinXP partition. If your cd is not a service pack 2 cd, you will have to reinstall that plus many security patches.
