Thank you, Clint. MRU Blaster did and does the job. IE Privacy Keeper didn't;
I don't see any check-off box there that refers to the setup of the registry.
I use the Classic Start menu too and using the "Clear" button in the Classic
Start menu clears he Run window but does not put the Registry back into its
opening position. By the "opening position" I mean with only the basic five
keys showing in the left pane. Following your directions (possibly I'm not
doing it right), in the registry, just clicking the My Computer key closes the
keys but then clicking the plus sign just puts it right back where it was.

I don't recall this problem with Win 98; seems I remember the registry always
opening to the basic five keys. And Ad-aware and Spybot have nothing to do
with how the registry opens as I see it. I also thought there was a hotkey
combination that returned the registry to the left pane five key look. ---

> This is a form of "recent documents" (MRU's). They can be cleared several
ways: "IE Privacy Keeper" and check the box for "Recent documents" to have
them automatically cleaned. "MRU Blaster" will do it (among many other
things), SpyBot and AdAware probably will, as will many other utilities that
erase usage tags. I don't use the XP Theme, I use the Classic, so in my case
you can right click the Taskbar, 'Properties', 'Start menu' tab, 'Customize'
button, then the 'Clear' button which will clear all recent docs (and usage).
If you're needing to search for something in the registry, the tree doesn't
have to be collapsed, just highlight "My Computer" then search. It will search
from that point down.- -Clint

it in last time it was used. What must be done so that the Registry always
opens with the root keys showing? If that can't be done, I think there is some
hot key combination (on the keyboard) that closed the entire tree in one shot.
I don't recall what it is; maybe someone in the group does --- Harold
