That's a good question. Now how would I know? I did a search for Symantec on
the computer and found maybe 10 references. Most refer to "LiveUpdate" and
in following up on some of the files, I found that it only has to do with IE
(which I rarely use; I use Firefox). In following up in IE, I find it has
something to do with the bar that often appears under the "Information bar"
that tells how IE is stopping popups from appearing.
So being totally confused now, I moved all Symantec references to the
Recycle bin (knowing that I can always restore from there to their original
locations) and I'll reboot seeing if there are any appreciable changes in my
system. Maybe I'll keep it this way for a while and not move any of those
Symantec files/folders out of the Recycle bin until I'm sure all is working
well. If I accidentally do, and you don't here from me for 10 years, you'll
know my plan didn't work :-)
But your question is interesting. How would one know if one has anything
*from* a "whatever name" installed on a PC? --- Harold
Do you have anything from Symantec installed on your PC now? If so, that
folder is for it. - -Clint

I have one Symantec folder in my "Program Files" and two in my "Application
Data" folders. I know it has something to do with LiveUpdate,
maybe only needed with Norton. I use AVG (free) for those "nasties" ... does
this Symantec have any other reason besides Norton for being in my system? I
deleted Norton ages ago, and using RegSeeker it doesn't even appear in the
Registry. --- Harold
