Thank you Roger and Hugh --- I said good-bye to the chazah (an appropriate
nyc yiddish-ism ).
And thanks, Ben, for the "Google Desktop" lead (whatever that is; I'll find
out). With all the deleting I'm doing, it's no wonder the "search" is a bit
faulty; the "search options" boxes don't remain checked. What bothers me is
what did I delete (if anything) that might have caused that? How will I know
next time? Mistakes are great when you learn something from them. I've
learned more about the computer from mistakes then from anywhere else; it's
all trial and error with me.
Regarding google, I knew it then and I know it now (another "should have" in
my life); I should have invested in Google when it went public. --- Harold
Kazaa is a peer-to-peer file sharing program, but before you delve into it,
do a bit of research. There are a few caveats attached as far as use,
configuration, resources used, etc. --- Roger
Stay well away from Kazaa, which is a known P2P Spyware app and often leads
to virus-laden files. --- Hugh
Well Harold here's another one for you to worry about. ;-) Once you have
checked stuff in advanced options in search like "search system folders" or
"search sub folders" they should stay checked. If yours doesn't, it's not
working correctly. Indexing service is supposed to speed up searches on your
computer. It's a resource hog and I always turn it off. Why don't you try
out one of the newer desktop search programs like Google desktop. It's
invisible until you need it and is much faster than the search in
Windows. --- Ben Moore
