Harold, that reminds me if it's made to use on Win95, you can
try changing the compatibility mode. Right click the program's
main .exe file (the file that launches the app) and go to
"Properties", then open the "Compatibility" tab, then check the
box under "Compatibility mode" and change the drop-down to
Win2k, or NT, or '95. I've had some old programs work fine on
XP after doing that.

Notepad replacements have many more features than the basic
Notepad. I use Metapad for example, and unlike Notepad; any
URL's in it are clickable, there's and advanced "Find" and
"Find and replace with..." function and "Find word"
(highlighted word or phrase), Status bar WITH line-wrap, any
area in a file in it has line and column coordinates (useful
for counting entries and comparing data), right click and
"Make" all "lowercase, upper case, inverted case or titled
case" and others, and many other features. Most people
may not have the need for that, but I use those features
for quick various types editing of text files, and HTML code.

If you check the message boards at
http://www.mypeecee.org/rogsoft/
You'll find that this software has a number of problems with
some systems.
It seems to have been written for Win 95.
You may be running into a limitation of the program, or your
flash drive.
Try Right-clicking the file and selecting "Open With". Which
folders give
you this problem?
I've never seen any reason to replace Notepad or Wordpad, and
don't
understand the popularity of these replacement programs.
Flash drives are good for moving files, and backups, but I hope
you're
saving the files to your Hard Drive as well. Lose the flash
drive and you're
out of luck.
FWIW, I have a file in the root of my flash drives entitled
"This Flash
Drive belongs to..." which includes my contact info.

---------------------------------------
Hellow again,

This never happened before and I'm not sure what information is
important to
explain this problem. I'm using Notepad+ as my "step-up" from
the default
Windows notepad. I save my files in a flash drive (which I
recommend
highly), Now the problem:

>From some of the folders in that flash drive, I'm not able to
>open the .txt
file; instead, I get that exclamation mark warning, "Could not
open (name of
file)". The title bar name of that warning window is "RogSoft
Notepad+",
RogSoft being the software manufacturer of Notepad+ (something
I never knew
until seeing this warning window). From many other folders
there, I have no
problem opening a .txt file. If I copy one of these stubborn
.txt files onto
the desktop, it opens easily.

I copied some content from one of those .txt files, pasted it
into the
default windows notepad, saved it in one of the flash drive
folders that
gave me trouble, and that file also would not open (giving me
the same
warning window, only this time with plain "notepad" in the
title bar).
Bringing that file to the desktop and it opens easily (of
course, in
Notepad+ because using "open with" I had previously arranged
that).

Looking at the Properties of both files (one that opens and one
that
doesn't), the property information is the same. They both open
with Notepad
(shows the
Notepad+ icon) and both have "Archive" checked. Anyone know
what's
Notepad+ happening
here? ... Harold
