BTW Harold, how much memory is installed on your Compaq? Is it 512 mb or
1024 mb? Having several icons are not going to cause any difficulty
here. --- Peter Kaulback
I have 512 mb, and you're right; a few icons more or less won't make a
difference. What's more interesting is that I have a 150 gig capacity with
only 7 gig used (I don't keep too many graphics or sound files). And with
all that capacity available, I'll still challenge myself to remove small
kilobyte files that I'll find unnecessary. I'm convinced that whatever
lunacy, obsessions, compulsions, are lurking in one's subconscious, they
become magnified when involved with a computer (or as one gets older).
And the reason I think is that the computer is very "open ended" (like a
Rorschach test or the TAT, both projective tests, the computer has unlimited
possibilities) so one's personality takes off in any direction that one is
so inclined to take. I'm also sure there will be much research in this area;
maybe it is going on in the colleges now.
Ben Moore says, "you don't have to have that security icon displayed all
the time. Go to control panel and open the security center. On the left
of that
window you'll see something that says "Change the way Security center alerts
me." Then you'll see 3 check boxes. I've turned them all off now."
Now he tells me? It's a little late; I have no "Security Center" in the
Control Panel; I probably deleted it last week *lol* Does it matter? No, the
computer's working fine. But thanks, Ben, I'm recording those instruction so
after the next big reformat, I'll take that "control panel > security
center" step. --- Harold
