(iirc) the current implementation allows us to overwrite/override a given backend by simply registering another backend of the same name. so es, you could provide a bug-fixed jack-implementation without touching the pd-code.
and of course, you could provide 3 different jack implementations (e.g. with different features sets) at the same time, by just using different API-names.
