OK, there are _many_ feature PRs and there's much that I want to do to
move forward... but I think there are enough post-0.56-3 bug fixes in
place that I should hold off and release 0.56-4 before getting to new
stuff... so unless anyone thinks better of it I'll try to get that done
quickly before moving forward with other stuff. It should go pretty
fast since there's little in the current master that could break things
(I think...)
