[output~] is an abstraction that comes with pd's help files.
copy it from doc/5.reference/3.audio.examples/ to the folder where your
help-patches live.

apart from that, the example patch is really a bad example on what you
should do with pd. it is quite hard to use it without a midi-keyboard.
