Hello,
I have a Tapco Link.usb, It works very fine with alsa without specific stuff.
Test with standaard distribution Archlinux, debian and Ubuntu

    Most USB 1.1 cards just work plug and play. Stay away from USB 2
    cards (not
    many available yet anyway) and (older) M-Audio cards like the Quattro.

    Some popular choices are the devices by Edirol or the Terratec Phase
