i haven't found anything yet that works in windowed mode but not in
fullscreen.

an alternative would be to not switch to fullscreen but rather do
[border 0, dimen 1024 768, offset 0 0(

i really hate ATI cards (esp. since i'm just trying to get a friends
all-in-wonder running via a remote connection)
