When I need full power I use this script:
(I think you have to install some package for this, I dont use ubuntu)

#!/bin/bash

/sbin/sysctl -w vm.swappiness=10
tuned-adm profile latency-performance

Also you have to create a 'audio' group, add yourself to this group
and edit etc/security/limits like this:
(it seems that ubuntu changed this path for some strange reason, you
have to check it)

@audio soft cpu unlimited
@audio - rtprio 100
@audio - memlock unlimited
@audio - nice -20
