Hi Ivica, list...
it turns out both of them had vanilla Pd installed. They downloaded
extended packages and installed them and everything went fine from there.
Thx+best,
Derek

Not sure if this may help but on L2Ork's site we maintain default.pdsettings
file which commonly goes to /usr/lib/pd/ folder (or pd-extended folder with
newest releases of pd-extended where it may have to be renamed to
default.pdextended--we are currently in the process of syncing our version with
vanilla pd-extended).
FWIW, you may also want to try out our version of pd-extended--the install
documentation is kind of spotty right now as we are in the process of
overhauling that part but it should simply boil down to installing manually
pd-extended from source *over* the dpkg install.
