50ms is a hell of a big latency for playing live, or recording with monitoring and other kind of user cases. But it all depends of what you want to do... :-) I get 4ms here (ThinkPad laptop / intel i7 / ArchLinux), but higher the latency less changes of xruns. So if I don't really need this short latency I can set a little higher to ensure no xruns.
