These problems may well be related. I submitted a bug report for [sqrt~] some time ago (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3442082&group_id=55736&atid=478070). It is fixed, at least for OSX10.5 i386, where both [sqrt~] and [bonk~] work in the latest autobuild (20111221). Which builds did you check?
