i think it would be helpful, if you could attach the abstraction.
also, it would be helpful to know, where the abstraction (convert.ascii)
is from, as it seems not to be part of pd-extended.

It looks like you mixed the order of parameters.

Try inverting the speed (9600) and the port number.

What are the exact parameters you give to comport ?
