This is mainly a request for Iohannes but I thought it would be in-topic so I'm sending to the list.
The excellent pdf "pd-externals howto" that can be downloaded from [1] is not searchable. I opened it using both "Document Viewer" and "Okular" under Linux and in both viewers, when you enter any search string, there are no results.
