Hi Julian, The gui uses Pof (https://github.com/Ant1r/ofxPof), which is a openFrameworks wrapper for Pd. The patching way is close to Gem.
About getting the APK without Gplay, it should be possible, I'll ask Matt Black. You won't be able to download sold tunepacks, but you could get free ones.
